Kate Smith holds a B.A. in Acting from Dalhousie University, and during her time in Halifax spent two seasons with Shakespeare by the Sea before moving back to Ottawa in 2007. Since that time she has worked with a number of theatre companies, including: Third Wall Theatre (Top Girls), A Company of Fools (Richard III in Bouffon, Shakespeare's Interactive Circus), Gruppo Rubato (Airport Security), Evolution Theatre (pool (no water), Arabian Night), The Magnetic North Theatre Festival (a Theatre la Catapulte and NAC co-production) on The Rideau Project: The Rhyme of the Nicholas Street Gaol, Odyssey Theatre (In The Works Festival), Salamander Theatre (with whom she is a resident Core Company member and incoming Artistic Director), and Arts Court Productions (Secrets of a Soccer Mom), among others. She recently appeared as Pamela in The 39 Steps (SevenThirty Productions) for which she earned a Prix Rideau Award nomination. Kate is also the Co-Artistic Director of movement-based theatre company Skeleton Key, which is a resident company at the Great Canadian Theatre Company, and is currently in development for their new show Ladies of the Lake.
