Rain or Shine
What happens if it rains?
RAIN OR SHINE, you can always find us at the Amphitheatre, in the Sandra S. Lawn Harbour in historic downtown Prescott, Ontario.
First and foremost, the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival is an outdoor theatre. Audiences come to us not only because of the quality of our shows but also because of our stunning outdoor venue. Being an outdoor theatre company, our fearless actors will not be deterred by a little rain and will continue to entertain you in the case of light showers. Complimentary umbrellas are available for audience use!
Whenever possible, the shows will take place in the amphitheatre.
Reasons for pausing stopping the show are limited to:
· Threat of thunderstorms
· Threat of heavy rainfall
· Extreme heat: Humidex above 45°C
Often a system moving east along the river will divide and/or dissipate before it reaches us here in Prescott.
If there is only very light rain or an occasional shower in the forecast, then the decision will usually default to being in the amphitheatre.
In any case, on rainy days the decision whether to go ahead will be made at the start time of the performance. If we have to cancel performances for other reasons, then that information will be posted on our website and social media platforms as well as at our box office.
What happens if it starts to rain during a performance?
If weather becomes an issue during a performance, we may momentarily pause the production If the shower does not pass in 20 minutes, we may cancel the performance.
In all cases of a rain-out, your tickets will be exchanged for another performance. Patrons will be emailed with a rain ticket code which will enable them to rebook their seats for another performance. We also honour a ticket exchange if you choose to leave due to a light shower (but the show continues).
Audiences are welcome to use umbrellas, as long as they are sensitive to those sitting behind them.
