The St Lawrence Shakespeare Festival has been presenting outdoor theatre n in The Town of Prescott's Kinsmen Amphitheatre for 17 summers, where we’ve welcomed thousands of patrons since 2003.  In recent months we’ve become increasingly excited about launching our plans for our 31st Season.

But now we are in unpredictable and unprecedented times. Our Shakespeare team has actively shifted gears during the past month to explore any and all ways our 2020 Festival might be safely presented in a world that has been so deeply disrupted by COVID-19.

It has now become clear to us that if we stage a Festival in the Kinsmen Amphitheatre this summer, we can’t confidently ensure the health and well-being of our community – our patrons, artistic Company, staff and seasonal workers, volunteers, partners and more – in short, everyone who would gather together at our site and in turn, be in contact with the greater community. Our first priority must always be a safe and healthy space for all.

Because of this, we have made the difficult and heart-breaking decision to cancel our 18th Season.

It hurts to think about the lost opportunities for our theatre artists and administrative and production teams, and the loss of the Festival environment that brings so much joy to our community,  patrons, followers and friends. But we believe we have made the most responsible choice under the circumstances.

Many of you may not realize that actual ticket sales make up only a small part of the income we need each year to put on a successful season. We want this Festival to thrive as a unique addition to the region's summer activities and without the ongoing support of patrons such as yourselves, who give so generously, we simply couldn't do it!

Your contributions go directly towards production costs such as buying fabric to make costumes, buying materials to build the set or, most importantly of all, enabling us to pay the salaries and travel expenses of some of the best actors from across Canada.

We are also very passionate about attracting youth to experience Shakespeare outside of the classroom. Your support can help to inspire the next generation to realize their full potential.

Now you can donate online via CanadaHelps.org. It's safe, secure, and you receive a tax receipt by email right away!
