WEATHER POLICY

WHERE ARE PERFORMANCES?

RAIN OR SHINE, you can always find us at the Amphitheatre, in the Sandra S. Lawn Harbour in historic downtown Prescott, Ontario or at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Prescott.

To be outdoors, or not to be outdoors…
First and foremost, the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival is an outdoor theatre. Audiences come to us not only because of the quality of our shows but also because of our stunning outdoor venue. Being an outdoor theatre company, our fearless actors will not be deterred by a little rain and will continue to entertain you in the case of light showers. Complimentary umbrellas are available for audience use!

Whenever possible, the shows will take place in the amphitheatre.

Inclement Weather Venue:
We have a wonderful alternative venue in St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Prescott which is short 6 min walk or 3-minute drive from the amphitheatre. St Andrew’s will be an alternate venue for all our Wednesday matinees this season and will also be our standby venue in the event of inclement weather at the outdoor amphitheatre, thereby guaranteeing performances for our audiences. St Andrew’s air-conditioning ensures audience comfort and a newly installed elevator now ensures access for all.

Reasons for moving indoors are limited to:

· Threat of thunderstorms

· Threat of heavy rainfall

· Extreme heat: Humidex above 45°C

Often a system moving east along the river will divide and/or peter out before it reaches us here in Prescott.

If there is only very light rain or an occasional shower in the forecast, then the decision will usually default to being in the amphitheatre.

In any case, the decision will be made by 5 pm whether to move to St Andrew’s or stay at the amphitheatre and will be posted on our website and social media platforms as well as at our box office.

What happens if it starts to rain during a performance?
If weather becomes an issue during a performance, we may momentarily pause the production (a wonderful way for the audience to meet the actors, as they take shelter together under our beautiful gazebo)! If the shower does not pass in 20 minutes, we may cancel the performance.

In all cases of a rain-out, your tickets will be exchanged for another performance. We also honour a ticket exchange if you choose to leave due to a light shower (but the show continues).

Audiences are welcome to use umbrellas, as long as they are sensitive to those sitting behind them.
